Praying for Jerusalem and Israel

Through the bible, Adonai directs us to pray for two cities.. Jeremiah 29:7 directs us to “Also seek the shalom of the city where I took you … and pray to Adonai for it—for in its shalom will you have shalom.” This direction was to the people in exile. Even if we do not want to be in the city we are in, we are directed to pray for it.

And also to pray for our leaders..
1 Timothy 2:1-3… I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made on behalf of all people— for kings and all who are in authority—so we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and respectfulness. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior.

We are directed also to pray for the shalom of Jerusalem, and by extension, Israel. Psalm 122 tells us of the importance of Jerusalem, and for Adonai’s sake to seek her good. In particular we are told to pray for the peace of Jerusalem … Psalm 122:1-9 A Song of Ascents. Of David. I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the House of Adonai.” Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem— Jerusalem, built as a city joined together. There the tribes go up, the tribes of Adonai —as a testimony to Israel— to praise the Name of Adonai. For there thrones for judgment are set up, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem— “May those who love you be at peace! May there be shalom within your walls— quietness within your palaces.” For the sake of my brothers and friends, I now say: “Shalom be within you.” For the sake of the House of Adonai our God, I will seek your good.

The media would have us believe that Israel has no right to peace- shalom, without laying down their arms and allowing Palestine free reign. When the media pushes this agenda it is pushing for the annihilation of Israel and the death of every man, woman and child who lives there. The word tells us that every nation will turn against Israel in the end times.

We see the beginnings – media misreporting and ignoring Israel’s right to exist, the UN blatantly pushing the Palestinian agenda while ignoring the plight of countries like Syria, Africa and others where people are being systematically slaughtered.

We see countries like New Zealand being wooed away from their previously pro Israel stance.

The bible also tells us that true world peace will not happen until the return of the Messiah.

It is vital that believers everywhere include in their daily prayers, not only prayers for the peace and prosperity of their own city but prayers for countries that are in turmoil, where the people are suffering and dying, and also specifically prayer for peace in Jerusalem and Israel and for their own government to look kindly on Israel and to make wise discerning decisions when they are pressured by the political and economic agenda.

There are a number of websites that will offer suggestions and guidelines for praying for Israel from simple, “Lord, pour out your shalom upon Israel” to directed specific prayer points using scriptures of prophecy and proclamations.

The below site provides a great starting point for those of us who are new on this journey……/how-can-we-pray-for-the-pea…/

Psalm 122 urges us to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”, or more literally, to ask about shalom for Jerusalem. What does it mean? Is it talking here about the need to pray for the city itself &#821…
