June 2006: Mothers day and the Prophetic implications of the ‘Seed of the Woman’
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Luk 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is no male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Mothers day here in Australia was May 13th. It is a good opportunity to say thanks to our womenfolk and honour them for the important place they have in society. Their influence as home makers is today underestimated and, largely due to the secularization of our society, undervalued. A house is not necessarily a home unless there is a capable woman running it. We have all heard the saying 'behind every great man there is a great woman' and I would like to add, that whether the woman is a mother or a wife, it stands true in both instances. Proverbs 22:6 says ' Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.' This proverb is most likely to be enacted in the home of an infant with a Godly mother who will influence the child during its formative years in the home.
What is behind this word ' Mother'?
Just as in any creation there are multiple factors that form the design. God has made woman to be many things and equipped you ladies with the necessary abilities to be what He intended you to be.
Firstly, God made you female.
That is stating the obvious but it needs to be emphasised in our generation. It is this role of female and subsequent position as a wife and a mother that seems to have been forgotten in these days of so called plenty, which it is for some, but there is a price to pay for our prosperity. I believe that being a mother has been a struggle right down the ages and in fact it has always been difficult for women to perform their duty, simply because it is an imperfect world and is not exactly running to God's design. It is a case of doing the best you are able under whatever circumstances you are in.
The female character is mainly designed to cope better as a helpmeet to the husband and to care for (not provide for but this is very common out of necessity) her children and family life. The females are wired differently than their male counterparts. They are no way inferior as both make the whole in equal parts. I could only find Adam being instructed to work in Gen 2:15, Cain and Able both worked. Somewhere along the way women had to help out.
The role of female, Eve as mother has prophetic implications.
It started in Eden,
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
The word enmity means ' hatred' . And so the battle has raged from the very beginning.
There is no love and no love lost between the Satanic seed and the seed of God, it is a fight to the end.
Why did God give this prophecy to the woman and not the man? We should not be surprised that only in the female can the genes be traced back to one single woman, that every woman born can be traced back to Eve. If the prophecy had been given to Adam then it would have died out over a few generation. The Jewish scholars knew it would be through the female lineage that the Saviour would come. So it does not matter where the seed of woman came from except she be a part of the nation of Israel.
We see this demonstrated in the story of Ruth.
We all know the story of Ruth the Moabitess who married Boaz the Israelite. Through this union of Jew and Gentile came the lineage of the house of David and consequently the Saviour of the world Jesus Christ. The seed of woman was still in the nation of Israel. That old hatred was also there against the nation that carried the seed, which would eventually conquer and crush Satan. Men of God did not forget and through scripture they had the answer to God's plan. They knew as demonstrated in the story of Ruth and Boaz that it was the seed of woman that quietly moved through the ages like a stream that flows on and on. God's word does not return void and once uttered continues on like a life giving stream bringing His will of restoration to fruition. Ruth was not an Israelite but she became one by marriage.
Rth 4:11 And all the people in the gate, and the elders, said, (to Boaz) We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman (Ruth) who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, for these two built the house of Israel. And may you be blessed in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem. 'May thy family be increased through her' means this, as the tribes were formed through Rachel and Leah, wives of the patriarch Jacob so may it continue through Ruth, and so it was. This female Ruth was the foundation of the building of the house of David. Concerning this thought that a 'house' signifies family. An ancient non biblical play says, "I would also observe, that ye men are similar to houses; ye parents are the fabricators of the children, and they are the foundation of the building." (The apostle Paul says we are a building, Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord).
Just to finalise the story of Ruth,
Rth 4:17 And the women, her neighbors, gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi. And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
In Ruth we see the true character that God intended in His creation. Before we move on we must not forget to include the character of Ruth who carried the seed. Ruth is a model for all Godly women. It was the female character of Ruth, her becoming the submissive wife to Boaz, which was so important to the plan of God.
Prophetic fulfillment of the Seed.
The seed of Eve was designed to remain pure and protected. When the time was come for the fulfillment of God's prophecy the Holy Spirit caused life to be given to that seed. This was the birth of the second Adam, the representative of the new creation. This was the birth of God's only begotten Son. They called Him Jesus and He was the Seed that was prophesied and has overcome Satan and all works of evil.
The final moment of this time of seed carrying came when a young lady called Mary had a very special encounter with an angel called Gabriel.
Luk 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
Luk 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
Luk 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
Luk 1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
Luk 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
Luk 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Luk 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David.
Luk 1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Luk 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luk 1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
Luk 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Luk 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
And so again we can see an example of and get a feeling for the character of 'woman' , the humble acceptance of God's command and the grace of Mary as she laid down her own dreams to be used in the great plan of the Almighty.
This is the end of the story as far as the seed of Eve is concerned according to the flesh, but through the promised Seed Jesus Christ, things changed rapidly and eternally.
Jesus said 'ye must be born again' and so a whole new definition for birth had to be learned:
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Joh 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
The New Testament now dwells on the supernatural birth and the Seed of that birth is the Gospel, which says that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, who paid the price to set us free from sin, and we can have this new birth from above if we only believe in the Son and the finished work of the cross.
Now we can read Gal 3:28 in the light of the new covenant.
Women and men are again as one in taking forward the plan of God. Now the seed of the gospel by which men must be save is carried in the hearts of both female and male. It was a woman who announced 'he is risen' , they stayed close and saw their job done! We as 'one new man', that is male, female, Jew and the nations, are together in this final demonstration of God's power, involved in this struggle of hate and deception against love and truth. The Church is described in her female role as the 'Bride of Christ' and so the female character is again used in the great plan of the living God.
So from the male population of the body of Christ I want to thank you ladies for your past, present and future role in crushing Satan and his seed. The role of the original mother has changed but slightly, you are still females, wives and mothers in the natural sense with the added responsibility as members of the body of Christ and also of the family of God in which you are mothers of this ever increasing family.
Rom 16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
God be with you all.
Ivan.
